Going virtual for BCI PhD Day 2020

7th October 2020

On 23rd September 2020, Barts Cancer Institute held their annual PhD Day, which is a celebration of the work of our postgraduate research students and an opportunity for them to showcase their research to fellow students and academics. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, this year’s PhD Day took place online via Zoom, and 130 staff and students tuned in to watch the live presentations by our students.

London Pancreas Workshop 2020

30th September 2020

On 11th September 2020, Professors Hemant Kocher and Nick Lemoine hosted the eighth London Pancreas Workshop (LPW) – a forum for state-of-the-art clinical and basic research in pancreatic cancer. In a first for the biennial event, this year’s LPW took place online with pre-recorded speaker presentations and live, interactive Q&A sessions.

The Class of 2019

The hard work of the students enrolled on the Postgraduate Taught Courses and PhD studentships here at the Barts Cancer Institute paid off yesterday (19th December) when they graduated at the Queen Mary University of London, School of Medicine and Dentistry Winter Graduation Ceremony.

London Cancer PhD Student Network

25th July 2019

The newly established London Cancer PhD Student network recently held its first event, which attracted over 60 PhD students from across London to the Barts Cancer Institute. Speakers from six institutes gave short chalk talks to describe their research.

World Economic Forum, China

8th July 2019

Professor Fran Balkwill was selected as a high-level delegation to the World Economic Forum in Dalian, China, to discuss her work in cancer research. As one of three researchers selected by the European Research Council to attend, she participated in presentations, panel discussions and press conferences on the topic of ‘Tackling cancer from within – new perspectives’.
